4th November 2008 Ladybird Ward

Tuesday 4th November 2008 - I was trying to learn how to crawl again when mummy and daddy came in this morning. I've nearly mastered the art of getting from A to B but I still can't figure out how to see where I'm trying to get to. Mummy and daddy laughed when they saw me and mummy said something about me lifting my head when I'm up on my knees. Mummy did show me but it was hard work so I let my head rest on my mattress again. Then couldn't see where I was going. I'll keep trying until I get it right... I'd also managed to get my feeding tube out of my nose in the night and my nurses didn't try putting it back in! I thought I'd finally won the battle as I now only had one tube attached to me which was my hickman line and that was due to come out today too.

Daddy gave me some porridge for breakfast and I ate nearly half a jar. Then my nurses came in together and I knew I was in for it (they only come mob handed when they're about to do something I don't like!). I was right. One pinned me down while the other put a new tube into my nose. I tried in vain to fight them off but they're just too strong, especially when there's two of them! I gave them 'eyes' though so I think they'll think twice before they come again...! For my part, I think I'll leave this tube in for now. If only to save the nurses having to fight with me!

After my nurses had put my new tube in I had my milk put through it. It's now just plain milk and it's not been hurting my tummy as much lately. However, today was different. Just after my milk had finished I was a bit grizzly and daddy told mummy I was going to be sick. A few minutes later I was and I had to have all my bedding and clothes changed. Mummy and daddy then gave me a bath and I fell asleep for a little while.

My doctors came to see me and told mummy and daddy that my INR levels were now up to 3.8 so there was no chance of me going to theatre to have my hickman line removed today. They said they would review it again tomorrow but daddy doesn't think it'll happen till Thursday or Friday now if at all this week. Mummy and daddy asked the doctors about me being sick and they said that I'd gained 10grams since yesterday which was good but they would ask the special diet lady to come and talk to them.

When my doctors left, me, mummy and daddy all went out for some fresh air and to get mummy and daddy a drink. We weren't gone for too long though as I needed to have some medicines. I watched some tv for a little while and started getting sleepy again so mummy put me in my cot to let me sleep for a bit. I tried but just couldn't get comfortable so mummy gave me some snuggle cuddles instead.

A little while later we went downstairs again to see mummy's friend Kaye and her son Dominic. I had a cuddle with Kaye and was busy watching all the people walking past. I think I must have had something in my hair because lots of people that walked past smiled at me which was very polite of them, but I think mummy and daddy really must pay attention and make sure I'm presentable when I go out in future!

I started to get hungry so we said goodbye to Kaye and Dominic and mummy and daddy took me back to my room. I had sweet potato bake for lunch and really enjoyed it. Then the special diet lady came to see mummy and daddy and they explained that they thought I was being given too much milk too often and that's why I was being sick. They also said that I was having some medicines that were supposed to stop me being sick but weren't working and asked if they could stop giving them to me. My special diet lady agreed to stop one of my bottles at 6am to see if that would help and said they could stop one of the medicines that stop me being sick to see if that would help too.

When she left mummy gave me my milk from my bottle and I had nearly 40mls. Then I sicked it all straight back up again. Mummy and daddy were very upset and called to see my doctor. She came and spoke to them and told them it may take a little while for the medicines to work their way out of my system so they'll see how I go tomorrow.

Me, mummy and daddy all went out again and we watched the big tv on the wall in the cafe. When we came back to my room I had some apple and pears for tea and then had my milk just before I went to bed. This time I wasn't sick and I fell asleep quite quickly.

Tomorrow is another day and, you never know, daddy might be wrong and I might be allowed to have my hickman line taken out so I can be a little closer to going home.
