Wednesday 5th November 2008 - Mummy and daddy got here very early this morning as they were hoping my operation to remove my hickman line would happen today. Daddy asked my nurse if I could have some breakfast and she said yes so I ate a quarter of a jar of porridge without being sick. A little while later I had 50mls of milk from my bottle before the rest went down my tube. I wasn't sick after that either!
Mummy had a cuddle with me after I'd had my breakfast and then me, mummy and daddy played for a little while as we waited for my doctors to come and tell us whether I could go to surgery today.
When my doctors came to see me they told mummy and daddy that I couldn't have my hickman line out today as my INR was still too high although it had dropped a little from yesterday. Mummy and daddy were very disappointed as although I'm now classed as 'clinically healthy' with 'no cardiovascular illness' I can't go home until my hickman line has been taken out. Daddy asked my nurse if there was realistically any chance of me having my operation this week. She replied it was highly unlikely and they were probably looking at next week.
After mummy and daddy had digested the news that we'll probably still be here next week they decided it would be a good idea to take me out for a while. So we went to a place they say they go to a lot for lunch. They had some nice looking burgers and chips and I watched all the people in the restaurant and tried eating daddy's chips! But daddy wouldn't let me have any (I think he must have been very hungry!) so I just watched while he pigged them all.
We then went back to my room at the hospital and I had my lunch and wasn't sick again. I had 40mls from my bottle too and then had a sleep. While I was asleep a special doctor came to see mummy and daddy and told them he was going to be taking my hickman line out either tomorrow or Friday! He explained to mummy and daddy that the procedure was fairly straight forward but it was more complicated for me because of my warfarin. He said there was a risk of me bleeding but he was sure I would be ok. He asked daddy to sign a form to say it was ok to go ahead and then said he'd see me tomorrow or Friday... Mummy and daddy are pleased but cautious too as they've had their hopes of me going to theatre raised a few times lately and it's not happened yet.
When I woke up I had a cuddle with daddy and watched some tv with him for a bit before I had my tea. I didn't have anything to eat because I was a little bit sick an hour before my bottle was due. I had my milk through my tube in my nose after I'd fallen asleep and wasn't sick so I've done much better today!
My nurse came back to see mummy and daddy and confirmed there was a good chance I'd have my operation tomorrow or Friday and that I should be able to go back to Norfolk the day after I've had my hickman line removed! So, if all goes to plan, I could be in Norfolk by Friday although mummy and daddy think Monday or Tuesday is more likely...
When mummy and daddy went to get some fresh air while I was asleep, they bumped into the doctor that looks after me in Norfolk. He said it was a big day tomorrow and he hoped we'd all be home by the weekend. Mummy and daddy were pleased because things do look more promising now and I think they've had enough of London now.
I'm fast asleep now and daddy has been busy changing my site as it is fireworks night tonight. We've heard lots of loud bangs but I've not seen what's making the noises. Hopefully next year I'll get to see some fireworks with mummy, daddy and Dylan!
Daddy has also added a poll to my homepage to ask people if they would like daddy to continue doing my updates when I do finally get home. If you'd like to vote click here and vote where indicated on the right hand side of the page.
Thank you! xx
