7th November 2008 Ladybird Ward

Friday 7th November 2008 - Mummy and daddy were hoping my INR levels were low enough for me to have my hickman line taken out this morning. My nurse told them I'd been good and had even given her a scare by hiding at the bottom of my cot when she had come to check me! Then she told them that she'd given me my milk at 6am and mummy and daddy were a little surprised as I'm not supposed to have any milk until 10 so that my tummy can have a little rest.

I was full of smiles when I saw mummy and daddy and had a big cuddle with mummy and then daddy but my tummy was hurting so I started getting a little restless and whingy. Then I coughed a little bit, took aim, and was sick all over daddy's clean shirt and mummy's trousers! I felt much better after that and daddy and mummy cleaned me up and played with me after they'd cleaned themselves up too.

My doctors came in to see me again and mummy and daddy told them that I hadn't had any breakfast as I'd had a bottle at 6am and wasn't hungry. My doctors told mummy and daddy that my INR had fallen to 3.5 from 4.6 the day before which was a good thing but was still too high for me to go to surgery. They said that they were confident my INR levels would be within range tomorrow though and are planning to take me to theatre around 9am! Mummy and daddy said that was good but I don't think they really believe it will happen as they've been told I'll be ready to go home "the day after tomorrow" lots of times. My doctors checked me over and said that my weight had gone up a little bit so they were very pleased with me.

After my doctors had left, me, mummy and daddy all went out to get Dylan a special present for being such a brave big brother while I've been gone. I can't wait to see him and hopefully won't have to wait much longer. When we'd got Dylan's present we went to get some dinners for me and then went to get mummy and daddy some lunch too. I liked being outside again but started getting a bit irritable after a little while so daddy gave me a cuddle. Then I got tired so we came back to hospital and I had a little sleep.

When I woke up after a little while, daddy was asleep again (he does like his sleep) and so I woke him up by grizzling to let him know that mummy had gone downstairs to get some fresh air and a drink and I was hungry. Daddy gave me some lunch and I then wanted to have a bottle of milk so daddy waited for mummy and let her give me some from my bottle. I had over 50mls and then sicked a lot of it back up. Luckily mummy was expecting it and it didn't get her or daddy this time. Mummy and daddy got me changed again and I was all smiles while my nurse changed my bedding.

It's very boring being  here so I get restless quite quickly now. Luckily I have a tv in my room so me and daddy watched In the Night Garden and then a bit of The Shiny Show. Then I had a play with mummy and laughed lots but kept nearly being sick. I make mummy and daddy laugh by shaking my head like I'm saying no and mummy and daddy ask me questions to see if I know the answers. Mummy asks if I want to go to sleep and I shake my head. Daddy asks if I want some milk and I shake my head too. But when they ask if I want to watch tv I don't do anything even though I want to do what the Tittifers do on In the Night Garden and nod! I haven't learnt how to do that yet but I'll figure it out! I'm getting very good with my crawling too but still can't quite lift my head up so I wiggle my bottom and head and shuffle to get where I need to go which makes mummy and daddy laugh. Then I giggle because they're laughing and I usually end up in a heap on my cot.

Mummy said she is going home again on Sunday so she can look after Dylan again. He is really missing me, mummy and daddy so daddy said it would be a good idea for mummy to go home and then she can bring Dylan to see me when I get back to Norfolk. Hopefully I'll be back either on Sunday or Monday but daddy thinks it'll more likely be that I have my hickman line taken out on Monday and go back to Norfolk on Tuesday or Wednesday but he also said he's given up trying to guess when I'll be allowed to leave here. I feel a lot better than I did a few weeks ago and mummy and daddy are very happy with what the doctors and nurses have done for me but they also want us all to be able to go home as soon as it's safe for me.

When mummy spoke to granddad Mick he said he was coming to see my auntie Cassie on Saturday and that he would bring Dylan to see me too! I'm really excited because I haven't seen my big brother for weeks and weeks! Mummy will then go home with granddad Mick and Dylan sometime on Sunday and hopefully meet me and daddy in Norfolk a few days later. Things are slowly starting to come together and we're nearly at the end of a long stay in London.

I had my tea and then some milk and wasn't sick again. My nurse gave mummy and daddy some batteries to put in my favourite toy because the ones in it are dead. I've been bashing my poor blue airfalant (Tiana means elephant) to try to get him to sing to me all day so I couldn't stop smiling when daddy put new batteries in and he worked again! I played with him lots and lots and started getting sleepy but was fighting going to sleep so I could play. Daddy put my airfalant at the bottom of my cot just before he and mummy went to have their dinner. When they came back I was fast asleep and nicely settled.

I may be woken up a bit later though because my doctors still haven't done the scan on my heart and were planning to do it again sometime today just to make sure everything is working properly. Hopefully they'll do it in the morning just before I have my hickman line out so I can have an uninterrupted sleep as I've not slept much all day.
