10th November 2008 Buxton Ward Norfolk & Norwich Hospital

Monday 10th November 2008 - Daddy woke me up this morning while he was talking to my nurse. I was really pleased to see him and gave him some big smiles while we played for a little while. Then he gave me some breakfast and I had over half a jar again. My nurse told daddy that my local hospital had phoned earlier and had said it was still ok for me to go back there later today. She said that I was to have a blood test later in the morning to check my INR and my transport back to Norfolk was booked for lunchtime. Daddy was very pleased and started packing things away, but he did leave me some toys to play with.

My doctors came in to see me again and poked and prodded my tummy but not as much as normal. They said goodbye to me and thanked daddy for helping them to help me. They said that mummy and daddy had been very good parents as they had allowed them to do their jobs and had been extremely patient during my long recovery. Daddy thanked my doctors for making me better and said he and mummy were very grateful to them for saving my life. Daddy said it had taken a long time but it was well worth the wait as I was now back to my cheeky best (I don't know what he meant by that so I just smiled).

It was very strange in my room this morning after daddy had packed everything up and tidied up. He even put his bed away so I knew something was happening! Daddy got my milk ready for me and I got all excited because I was quite hungry. Daddy let me have it from my bottle and he held it while I drank very quickly. Daddy kept stopping me though and kept pulling my bottle out of my mouth! I had hold of daddy's hand and kept pulling it back and we had a little battle for a little while. I'm pleased to say I won because I finished the whole bottle! I was very surprised with myself and looked at daddy when I'd finished and then waited for it all to come back up... I was sick a very little bit and that was it! Daddy tried to find my nurse because she was going to give me my milk through the tube in my nose and, while he was looking for her, she came in and started setting my pump up! I tried telling her I'd had my bottle but she just thought I was being polite and kept saying she was sorting it and my tummy would soon feel better! Just before she connected my tube to the pump, daddy came in and told her that I'd taken ALL my bottle orally and I didn't need it put through the tube in my nose! My nurse was very impressed and said that showed I was definitely getting better.

I was expecting some kind of reward for drinking all my milk. I'm not sure what I was hoping for, maybe a gold star, or maybe a cuddle? So what did my nurse do for me for drinking all my milk? Yep. She stabbed me in my arm with one of her friends! I was not amused and cried lots while they held me down. Daddy was there though and he made me feel better once they'd stolen some of my precious blood by giving me a big cuddle. I soon settled down and fell asleep for quite a while.

When I woke up me and daddy played with my balloon that still falls up and watched some tv. Then I started feeling a bit hungry so daddy gave me my lunch. I ate half a jar of lamb casserole and then my nurse came in and told daddy that my INR levels were 3.1. She then said she was going to give me my medicines and then help daddy downstairs with our bags to the ambulance car that was waiting to take us back to Norfolk.

When we got downstairs daddy strapped me into my car seat and we set off. It was the first time I'd been in a car for a very long time and daddy sat in the back next to me as we drove through London. I didn't see a lot, just the sky mostly, but daddy kept me amused by playing with me. Then we started going much faster and I got tired and fell asleep again.

Before I knew it I woke up and daddy carried me out of the car and back into my local hospital. 67 days after I left in the ambulance with the blue flashing lights and sirens, I was back! I feel a lot better now than I did then and hopefully this time when I leave here to go home with mummy, daddy and Dylan, I'll stay at home much longer than I did in June. I think the air must be different up here because I'm sure I saw a little tear in daddy's eye when he put me in my cot in my new special room. I smiled to let daddy know I was ok and daddy gave me a big kiss and tickled me. Then he unpacked all my toys and switched on my own tv above my bed! It's good to be back!

My nurses came in to check my obs and then daddy gave me some milk. I took 50mls from my bottle again and then daddy left me for a bit to get a drink. When he came back a little while later I was still watching tv when mummy and Dylan came in! I was so excited to see them again and I had big cuddles with mummy and Dylan. Dylan kept being silly again and I encouraged him by giggling at him. He's the bestest big brother in the whole world and I've really missed having him around to cheer me up when I'm feeling a little down. Now i'm back in Norfolk he'll be able to see me every day again until I get home, which shouldn't be too long now!

Mummy, daddy and Dylan all went out to have their dinner and I watched my tv. When they came back uncle Brett, auntie Emma and my cousin Lydia all came to see me too! Daddy gave me some dinner but I was too excited to eat as there was so much going on. I had nearly half a jar but then was sick quite a lot. When mummy had cleaned me up I had a cuddle with uncle Brett, auntie Emma, mummy, daddy and Dylan and then watched a little more tv. Uncle Brett, auntie Emma and cousin Lydia then gave me lots of kisses and left and daddy gave me some more milk. I took 70mls and wasn't sick at all!

I was getting tired but can't sleep when mummy and daddy are about in case they want to play so they said it was time for them to go home and mummy would come and see me in the morning. Daddy has to go back to work tomorrow so he said he'll come and see me when he's finished for the day.

When mummy and daddy got home they called the hospital to see how I was and my nurse told them that I was fast asleep. Daddy said I would sleep all through the night so long as they don't come in and try stealing any of my blood or stab me anywhere and my nurse said they'd be extra quiet! It's been a very eventful day and I'm sure I'll sleep really well.
